It's Nancy Fierstein!
On Wednesday, April 30th, at 5:55 p.m., Nancy's entry was picked from all of the entries in the library's "Complete the First Lines" poetry contest. Nancy is a local poet & writer -- and suspected long-time poetry reader. Nancy was recently mentioned in a Austin American-Statesman column (5/11/2008) by Katherine Tanney as one of the featured poets at the Austin International Poetry Festival this spring.
Congratulations, Nancy, and enjoy your dessert and beverage!
Coming This Summer
For the first time, the Dripping Springs Community Library will offer an Adult Reading program called "ReadTEXAS" along with the traditional children's reading program.
Here's why --
1. To celebrate reading and its joys. The Texas Reading Club is marking its 50th year. The Texas Reading Club began in 1958 and has become an important part of Texas summers for children across the state.
2. To join the fun. Let's face it -- it is exciting to win and sometimes grownups could use a little fun too.
3. To keep OUR brains active. Reading books helps maintain focus and lengthens attention spans.
4. To show the way for our children. All of us do what we see -- not necessarily what we are told will be good for us. Let's give our children or grandchildren a chance to see US reading for information or enjoyment.
Here's how --
Just pick up a ReadTEXAS passport any time after June 2, 2008 at the Main Desk of the Dripping Springs Community Library, read any books you want, jot down the titles, and enter drawings to win prizes.
